Fact Sheet 8 - List of shellfish typesMolluscs - may have a pair of shells (bivalves), a single shell (univalves) or no shell (cuttlefish and octopuses): Carpet shell (bivalve), cockle (bivalve), paddock (bivalve), mussel (bivalve), razor shell (bivalve), scallop (bivalve), tellin (bivalve), oyster (bivalve), limpet (univalve), cowrie (univalve), tower shell (univalve), tusk shell (univalve), whelk (univalve), winkle (univalve). I have counted at least 130 different types of these creatures, some freshwater and some marine! New creatures are being discovered all the time. Crustaceans - have external skeletons: Barnacles (resemble molluscs), lobsters (common, crawfishor spiny, Norway, Montagu's plated, spiny squat, long-clawed squat), crayfish, crabs (shore, edible, lhairy, porcelain, long-clawed, hermit, velvet, masked, spider, scorpion, sea toad), prawn, shrimp.
